I had a lovely time with a fabulous group of artists in North Vancouver this past week. They brought their own copies of personal photos to embellish their journals and shared their rich history of gardening and art-making.
This artist made flowers out of garlic skins and glued them to the cover of the journal.
Their collage styles shared a painterly, fluid approach. It makes sense to use organic forms like waves and ragged edges considering the subject matter!
The layering that the artists achieved gave the pages depth and harmony.
Each person was given the same journal kit, but made completely different work from one another.
It was a privilege to get a glimpse into their beautiful gardens.
And now it's your turn! I am giving a free garden journal workshop next Sunday at Britannia Library. The kit I am giving you (for free!) contains every thing you need to make your journal Please come and join us. Note that you do have to buy a membership to the Britannia Community Centre to join the workshop, but they are cheap like borscht! (See below.)
Madame Beespeaker’s Garden Journal
Using collage techniques, participants will create a garden journal out of envelopes which will hold their garden plans, secrets, dreams, recipes, and memories. Each person will receive local flower seeds saved by Madame Beespeaker as well as herbal tea recipes and tips on gardening for bees and other pollinators. Create a garden journal as a lovely gift for yourself or your favourite gardener. To personalize our journal you may bring photo copies or digital prints of family garden photos on regular weight matt paper (5 inches by 5 inches or smaller would work best.) Join Artist Instructor Lori Weidenhammer (Mme Beespeaker) for this fun and creative workshop!! The workshops at Britannia Community Centre are a part of the ongoing free programming throughout the growing season at the Means of Production Garden, for more information about the garden, other workshops and the artists involved visit MOPARRC.wordpress.com.
